As autumn looms and the evenings become shorter and cooler we start to think about cosy evenings at home reading a book or watching TV or just listening to music.
The Danish have a word for this “Hygge” (pronounced hoogah) which basically describes a feeling of wellbeing in a comfortable and warm ambience usually involving lots of candles, luxurious throws and cushions.
This Scandinavian look is easy to incorporate into your home making it feel warm and inviting on those long evenings and as we face a long winter with the Covid restrictions continuing it has never felt more important to create a sense of safety and comfort at home.
Brown & Drury - a Warwickshire
based candle business - makes the most wonderful soy candles and diffusers, to make your home smell divine. One of my favourites is 'Restoration' which is a smoky and masculine scent, perfect for Autumn evenings. Check out their website Brownanddrury.com for more information.
At the rustic shack we have some wonderful new textiles arriving in early October, (our new website therusticshack.co.uk is launching at the end of September,) in the mean me checkout our FB and instagram page @therusticshakk.
The addition on of cushions, throws and rugs can instantly up date a red scheme adding warmth and texture. Lighting is also a key player in creating the right atmosphere. Use so lighting and candles to create this glow, check out 'Bank Architectural' based in Astwood Bank, Worcestershire for some fabulous vintage and lighting ideas.
Whilst I love the clean cut Scandi style it can be quite cool and utilitarian - why not add some vintage pieces for a more relaxed rustic Scandi feel. Wooden pieces add warmth and character into your room as do chunky pieces of timeworn furniture.
Go ahead and bring some Hygge into your home and keep cosy during October!
